Miss Hickory Hosts a Pie Making Day at the Cabin


Miss Hickory has most of her food put up for the winter, so she decided to
use some of the harvest to make pies.
She invited some of her friends--Mrs. Plum and Miss MacDonald, to play pie-maker with her.


"How long should I let this filling simmer?" Mrs. Plum asks Aunt Hickory.
"Until it looks translucent," Aunt Hickory says. "About five minutes."
Mrs. Plum carefully stirs to make sure it isn't sticking to the pan.

 


Autumn Fairy and Miss MacDonald enjoy a snack as the pies bake.
"This is delicious," says Miss MacDonald. "Cider is one of my favorite drinks!"
Autumn Fairy is pleased to hear that. Pressing the left-over apples to make cider was her idea!

 


Miss Hickory has made an old family favorite--Acorn Nut Pies.
The recipe comes from Aunt Hickory's old Granny, and is always a big
hit at family gatherings.

 


Mrs. Plum has baked a specialty of hers---Blueberry Pie.
She remembers last July, sweating in the blueberry bushes, picking
blueberries and swatting mosquitoes. It was a lot of hard,
hot work then, but it sure is paying off now!

 


Aunt Hickory is tickled that her niece has used her Acorn Nut pie recipe.
She has been writing down the family recipes for Miss Hickory, so
that they can both enjoy making--and eating--all of the favorite family specialties.

 


Miss MacDonald checks her Apple Delight Pie.
The students at the AGA love to see it brought to the Great Hall
for dessert. The cut-out hearts in the crust allow the steamy sweetness to
fill the room with spicy aromas.

 

 


Well--the pies are baked and cooling. Who will get to enjoy them?
Miss Hickory says she plans to keep one Acorn Nut Pie for herself,
and send the rest along to the AGA. Aunt Hickory and Autumn Fairy look
forward to sampling the Acorn Nut Pie for dinner.
