Why I Like Summer

I like summer because the days are long and warm. I can go outside and climb trees, fly kites and run barefoot in the grass, or at least pretend to run barefoot since my shoes and socks are carved and painted on permanently.

In the summer we go on picnics and hikes and spend a lot of time out of doors. Sometimes we go to the beach and collect seashells and sea glass. On hot summer nights we go back yard camping and sleep in our tents which is much cooler than sleeping in the house. We also get to go to Hitty Camp at Camp Ash Grove where we make new friends and reunite with old friends.

In the summer we go to farm stands to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, they taste so good when they are fresh and we are helping our local farmers when we purchase our fruits and vegetables in this way. We also go to yard sales to look for treasures for our collections.

Summer is my favorite time of the year.

I like summer because we get to wear shorts and non one thinks that is weird, like in winter. Plus, we can run around outside and play in the flowers. Oh! And swimming, too. Swimming is my favorite summer activity.

We also have a lot of horseback riding here at the AGA. We can ride them in the winter, but it isn't as much fun because it is so cold.

Summer is my favorite time of the year. We go outside and play wearing a simple summer dress that is cool and comfortable. We put water in the old washtub and put it in the shade under the big Maple tree then we play with our toy boats and baby dolls. It's fun because the water splashes us and that cools us off.

We like to plant flowers and vegetables in our gardens. The flowers look very pretty and the vegetables are good to eat. The bumblebees get the pollen from the flowers and then pollinate other flowers. I like bumblebees, they look so soft and pretty but you have to be careful so you don't get stung.

We like to cook hotdogs on the grill and smother them with onions. And the best thing about summer is attending Camp Ash Grove!

Why I Like Summer

I adore summer, because that's when I was carved. My Person was spending a week at a camp on Butterfield Lake. She'd spent plenty of time at the Nutshell when she was a child, as her best friend's family (who lived three houses down) owned several camps on the lake. The camps are a short walk from their homes up on the hill!
This week, my Person's daughter was teaching my Person to carve her first Hitty (which is me!) and she finished me at the Nutshell. I am named June for Her best friend's Mom!

And that's why I adore summer.
