Assembly Night

Every evening, before going out to roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs,
the Campers assemble in the Great Hall for announcements.

Great-Aunt Teddie, the Founder of the Ash Grove Academy, tells the Campers that if all goes well, there will be a very special surprise Saturday.

The Campers are agog! What could it be? Could it be the Big Camp Secret?
But G-A Teddie just laughs and says they will have to wait and see.

Pepito, the Master of Ceremonies for the Evening, calls for order.
"We will be distributing some books for everyone," he says importantly.
Hitty Maggy holds the Flag Protocol Book. It contains everything one needs to know about taking care of our American Flag.

"It's a Grand old flag, it's a high-flying flag!" sing the Atkinson girls. They can't wait to take the songbooks home to the other Hittys.

Everyone sings the song a few more times, and then Pepito calls for silence again.

"I am proud to introduce Mr. Giles, " he says.

"We already know Mr. Giles!" yells one of the Mini-Hittys.

Pepito laughs and steps back so Mr. Giles can take the stand.

"Errr, um, yes. Well, yes, and here is errr, my book."

He holds up another one of his books. This one is all about the Newbery Award, and how it got started.

Mr. Spock is next, and he has a book he has written, too.
It is called Space: the Final Frontier.
Mr. Spock also has a star map for the Campers. They are delighted!
Then he passes around pictures of himself in his uniform.
The girls shriek and giggle with joy.

"How did I do?" he asks Great-Aunt Teddie.

"Just fine," she assures him. The Campers were very impressed with your presentation on space, and so was I." She hesitates, then says "I don't suppose you have one of those little pictures for me?"

Some of the Campers have brought things to share.
Hitty Faith has brought along button dolls!

HItty Sue has brought sit-upons. Her cousin Hitty Ruth, holds up the Jasper Rocks HItty-Sue has brought. And what's that on her head? Why, Hitty Sue! She has smuggled in several tiny pink salamanders!
Hitty Rachelle proudly displays the blankets she has brought.
"And I have wicker bags to carry them home in," she adds.

Hitty Whit, who leads the Camp every day in Grace at mealtimes, shows off the Angel Dolls that came with her. They are so sweet!
JJ, one of Hitty Thankful's Persons, created these beautiful felt vests for some of the AGA Hittys. Here we see them modeled.

Hitty HesterB has brought along some secret prizes. Who knows who will go home with the ComicCon t-shirt, or the turtle sit-upon?

But the lovely staff is for Mrs. Plum.

Hitty June shows the Campers one of the Bookworm charts. The Campers will take them hoe, and use them to record their summer reading.

And finally, what everyone has been waiting for!
The Pirate Maps!
Oh, the Campers can't wait to start the Treasure Hunt!
